About Jess

My name is Jessica Buchanan, also known as Make It Jess (@makeitjess) on social media. 

I am a special effects makeup artist that likes to add a bit of glamour to my crazy looks. I specialize in transforming myself into characters, animals, creatures, or cosplays.

My favourite makeup looks are the ones that involve me painting my entire upper body!

Before makeup took a hold of my life, I used to be a full-time grade 7 & 8 teacher.   But I realized a career in education wasn't the life that I wanted, so I decided to leave it to pursue a life of creativity that makeup offered.

Now that I am no longer in the classroom, you can find my creative makeup looks and cosplays on TikTok and Instagram @makeitjess. 

But as it turns out, you can’t take the teacher out of me! I have missed teaching since I left. 

So I created Make It Jess Masterclass to share the makeup knowledge that I have learned over the years, as well as new TikTok makeup hacks. 

I traded teaching math lessons for makeup lessons.
